The Mahi Mahi is the first collaboration between Spanish high end sneaker makers of Sneep Crew and the up and coming brand of Obscure. It’s been a whole year of development to finally release a one of a kind sneaker. The idea behind the Mahi mahi was to create a Miami-themed sneaker, but not necessarily with the Art Deco pastel colors that Miami is usually associated with (Teal, Pink, Cyan, etc). Instead we decided to pursue another big aspect of South Florida (Miami) living; Fishing.
The staple of the fishing community in SoFlo is the Mahi Mahi, an extremely colorful fish that calls our warm waters home. With it’s one of a kind color combinations, it was the perfect choice to create a sneaker that would stand out among the dull color ways that are commonly used in the industry.
We decided to use the Zool model, one of the strongest models in the Sneep Crew line up. With its distinctive shape, one of kind paneling and comfort it was the best silhouette to bring this idea to life.
The shoe is dressed in three different colors of premium suede (Yellow, Green and Blue). There are 3M hits on both the logo and the heal of the sneaker, to create special contrast between materials. The blue suede on the tongue and collar of the shoe is debossed with lines to simulate the lively blue fins of the Mahi Mahi. On the heel, the Obscure logo is stitched with a vibrant aqua color to make it stand out further.
The insoles are printed to mimic fish fillets of Mahi with the Sneep Crew and Obscure logos on it. The upper is glued by the best craftsmen in Spain on top of a premium Vibram dark aqua mid sole to really contrast the vibrant colors of the upper. The sneaker has an aqua outer sole (same as the lining of the sneaker) to bring the entire color combinations together harmoniously.
